+ Ridley Scott Pushes For Prometheus 2
Fans of the latest addition to the Alien mythos will be happy to learn that the director is in talks to get a sequel to Prometheus on its feet.
Luckily, Scott’s first priority seems to be doing this iteration some justice. “Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can’t rush it,” says Emma Watts, the president of production at Fox.
With the possibility that writer Damon Lindof may be leaving the crew, it will be fascinating to see which direction the sequel takes in regards to what Lindof has already assembled. It’s entirely possible that a new writer will be just what Prometheus 2 needs to please the many fans that felt burned by the original’s very existence. Returning to the cast are stars Michael Fassbender and Naomi Rapace, who have each signed on to reprise their respective roles.
Prometheus 2 is tentatively slated for either a 2014 or 2015 release.

+ Prometheus Extras Reveal Elder Engineers
At this point, many fans have already taken a stance on Prometheus, but for those of you who have yet to see the film, I will try and keep this post as spoiler-free as possible, save for the image above.
Newly released footage from behind the scenes of Prometheus gives us a look at an alien that was not introduced in the film. No word yet as to how it plays into the plot, but there’s a good chance that the alien is of no consequence. Director Ridley Scott reveled that the theatrical version of the film is “fundamentally the director’s cut”, meaning that any extra footage that appears on the Blu-Ray probably won’t change the film significantly and is simply there for the fans.

“There will be half an hour of stuff on the menu because people are so into films - how they’re made, how they’re set up, and the rejections in it.  That’s why it’s fascinating.  So this will all go on to the menu.”

For the curious, you can find more images from behind the scenes here.

Faster than I can write about them, here’s four new Prometheus clips to whet your appetite, which you can watch here in HD (and/or 3D, if you are so inclined):

With the films rapidly approaching release date, fans seem to be divided on the topic of teasers. Many scramble for any information about the film that they can get their hands on, while others choose to abstain from any potential spoilers, shunning the clips in favor of simply waiting for the June 8th release.

What do you think? Can there still be any mystery in a film that seems overly saturated with teasers, clips, and trailers? Do you find yourself fed up with these “sneak peeks”, or are you hungry for more?

  • Spaceships are very hard not to make cliche. We developed something fresh.” The latest teaser for Prometheus features an in-depth look at the ship itself, giving us a glimpse into the work done behind the scenes to ensure the film’s unique vision, as well as a glance into the minds of some of the actors, creators, and Ridley Scott himself.
  • Simon Pegg has revealed that Khan will not be the villain in Star Trek 2. When asked, Pegg said: “It’s not Khan. That’s a myth. Everyone’s saying it is, but it’s not. I think people just want to have a scoop. It annoys me – it’s beyond the point to just ferret around for spoilers all the time to try to be the first to break them.” This leaves a lot of room for speculation, but I’m sure we’ll find out more after SDCC in July.
  • Filming for the seventh season of Doctor Who is well underway, with the eleventh episode currently in production. Check out the behind the scenes pictures featuring Clara, the Doctor’s newest companion.
  • Speaking of Who, that Star Trek/Doctor Who crossover comic is hitting shelves this week. It stars Amy Pond and the Eleventh Doctor teaming up with the illustrious Captain Picard to defend against a band of all their worst enemies. Check out a preview here.
  • Finally, Michael Dorn, better known as Worf, has reportedly been pitching around an idea for a straight-to-DVD Star Trek movie starring his character “on the front lines, chasing terrorists.” I don’t know about you guys, but I would totally watch this film.

Two new trailers for Prometheus have landed, including an alien battle sequence and new footage of the ever-impressive Space Jockey. I think it goes without saying at this point that there are spoilers here.
In the spirit of its upcoming release, haunting viral marketing for Prometheus has been assembled on an abandoned train platform in Paris, France. [Above]
The first television spot for Total Recall has launched. The remake stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston, Jessica Biel, Bill Nighy, and John Cho and hits theaters in the US on August 3rd.
Speaking of remakes, Gary Oldman recently joined the cast of the upcoming Robocop remake, tentatively aimed for a summer 2013 release.
Finally, Orson Scott Card recently visited the crew of the Ender’s Game film to explore the set and record audio for a scene in which he makes a cameo. On his blog, he stated his satisfaction with the development of the film and the portrayal of his novel, but was quick to emphasize the difference between Gavin Hood’s adaptation and the original work.

The scene does not come from the book -– very few of the scenes in this movie do -– so it was amusing when others asked me how it felt to have my book brought to life. My book was already alive in the mind of every reader. This is writer-director Gavin Hood’s movie, so they were his words, and it was his scene.

That’s the roundup for today, friends. Keep your eyes peeled for more in the near future.

Today’s Prometheus viral is, blessedly, spoiler-free. It features Noomi Rapace as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, an archeologist with a message for the head of Weyland industries.
