Japanese Politicians Consider Building Real Life Gundam
It seems that the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan is in talks to bring working Gundam to life. Notable party members Tadamori Oshima and Bunmei Ibuki are scheduled to appear tomorrow on a popular Japanese video broadcast, Nico Nico Live, to discuss the possibility and benefits of creating and employing bipedal mecha and real Gundam.
The rapid development of mecha in the past few years makes it seem as though this was bound to happen. We’ve seen a few fully-functioning ones in the past, but when you have legitimate government officials contemplating such an endeavor, it’s hard not to wonder why.
Of course there’s the possibility that they could be used for defense or something along those lines. On the other hand, Japan is buried under a great deal of debt - why waste the yen on creating these things for such a rudimentary purpose?
Everything right now is just speculation, though. The party members of the LDP will hopefully shed some light on the rumors tomorrow during their broadcast. No word yet on when the interview will be recorded, but if they announce the start of the mech wars, we’ll be sure to let you know.
